I am trying to install gem json and getting error for json.
I'm running:

gem: 1.8.2
D:\GIT\calabash>gem install json -v '1.8.3'

Its a late response, but may it helps someone else. to install json '1.8.3' it requires packages 'libgmp3-dev'.
Use following steps:
sudo apt-get install libgmp3-dev
gem install json -v '1.8.3'
For anyone who has this issue on Sierra, I solved the problem through this thread: https://teamtreehouse.com/community/installing-ruby-on-mac-got-error
Coles notes version is that after updating to most recent version of XCode, I had to accept the terms for the XCode command line tools. See them/agree to them by running:
gcc --version
After I did that, everything installed as expected.
To help you here are some steps to follow in order to install your gem locally:
Download json-1.8.3.
Place the downloaded gem into a folder called gems
Open the Ruby cmd console (click on start button, select Ruby then select "Start command prompt with Ruby")
cd to the gems folder. If the path to the folder is C:\Desktop\gems, write the command: cd C:\Desktop\gems then click "Enter".
To install the gem run the following command:
gem install --local json-1.8.3.gem
I tried it and it worked for me, hopefully it will work for you.
Result:
Second way:
Include the whole path of the gem in the command:
gem install --local C:\Users\kedarl\Desktop\T\json-1.8.2.gem
For me here is the result. (This time with the json-1.8.2.gem):
I've solved this by installing Command Line Tools Xcode of the version I have. I hope this helps someone else.
If you installed Rails through RailsInstaller, try this -
https://gist.github.com/luislavena/f064211759ee0f806c88
It's a pretty common bug for RailsInstaller currently.
I'm attempting to install the termios gem on OS X 10.7 with ruby 1.9.3-p194. It used to install fine, but now, even when i try to install it in 1.9.3-p125, i get the same errors:
https://gist.github.com/83a4ff80fa882dcd6937
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Use gem install ruby-termios
http://rubygems.org/gems/ruby-termios
Hi I am looking to install the win32-service gem in Ruby for Windows, I have tried using the "gem install" command but it doesn't seem to know where to find my gem ;(
I downloaded the gem itself which came with a load of folders but no install instructions.
Is there anyway I can manually install the gem or point IRB in the right direction?
run this command to install gem file manually.
gem install [your gem file]
I am triad to use wpscan. please help me. please. It show flowing error.
ruby wpscan.rb www.security-ray.com [ERROR] Install missing ruby gem.
Please see README file or http://code.google.com/p/wpscan/
root#hacker-desktop:/home/hacker/pentest/wpscan
I am using Ubuntu 11.04. And last version of wpscan
The error message couldn't be clearer. From the README:
sudo apt-get install libcurl4-gnutls-dev libopenssl-ruby
sudo gem install typhoeus xml-simple
I am trying to install the ibm_db gem so that I can access DB2 from Ruby. When I try:
sudo gem install ibm_db
I get the following request for clarification:
Select which gem to install for your platform (i486-linux)
1. ibm_db 0.10.0 (ruby)
2. ibm_db 0.10.0 (mswin32)
3. ibm_db 0.9.5 (mswin32)
4. ibm_db 0.9.5 (ruby)
5. Skip this gem
6. Cancel installation
I am always going to be installing the linux version (which I assume is the "ruby" version), so is there a way to pick which one I will install straight from the gem install command?
The reason this is a problem is that I need to automate this install via a bash script, so I would like to select that I want the "ruby" version ahead of time.
You can use a 'here document'. That is:
sudo gem install ibm_db <<heredoc
1
heredoc
What's between the \<\<\SOMETHING and SOMETHING gets inputted as entry to the previous command (somewhat like ruby's own heredocuments). The 1 there alone, of course, is the selection of the "ibm_db 0.10.0 (ruby)" platform.
Hope it's enough.
Try this:
sudo gem install --platform ruby ibm_db
Note that you can get help on the install command using:
gem help install
UPDATE: Looks like this option only works for RubyGems 0.9.5 or above.
Try this, I think it only works on Bash though
sudo gem install ibm_db < <(echo 1)
#John Topley
I already tried gem help install, and --platform is not an option, both in help and in practice:
$ sudo gem install ibm_db --platform ruby
ERROR: While executing gem ... (OptionParser::InvalidOption)
invalid option: --platform
UPDATE: The Ubuntu repos have 0.9.4 version of rubygems, which doesn't have the --platform option. It appears it may be a new feature in 0.9.5, but there is still no online documentation for it, and regardless, it won't work on Ubuntu which is the platform I need it to work on.
Versions of Rubygems from 1.0 and up automatically detect the platform you are running and thus do not ask that question. Are you able to update your gems to the latest?
$ sudo gem update --system
Be warned if you are on Windows once you have updated; you might run into this issue.
Another option is to download the .gem file and install it manually as such:
sudo gem install path/to/ibm_db-0.10.0.gem
This particular gem was at rubyforge.
