At the time of reboot after new kernel compilation
I got error
please provide solution.
I expected for reboot with new kernel module in ubuntu 20.04

I faced this same issue in virtual box when I was doing new kernel compilation and reboot.
In my case ram given to virtual box was 2GB ,so I increased it to 5GB in virtual box
from setting==>system==>base memory .
After rebooting again.
It works properly.
hope it works.

Disk Utility Image
When I boot from a USB and "Try Ubuntu", I cannot increase the size of Partition 6 to us the Free Space. I assume the Free Space needs to be to the right of Partition 6 but, not sure. I have also tried gparted to no avail. How do I accomplish this without having to re-install Ubuntu?
NOTE: The laptop was once a Windows 10 unit that I re-partitioned and installed Ubuntu 22.04. I foolishly deleted the Windows partition from Ubuntu believing I could re-allocate the free space and maybe this has caused my problem.
I have booted from a USB and ran disk utilities in an effort to use my free space. I have read numerous posts on this topic from various sources but, I have not been able to duplicate those performances or suggestions.

I have a single 512 GB SSD with Windows 10 OS installed having partitions (GPT) as follows:
It turns out that the system partition hits ESP making me unable to extend it.
Could I resolve this using some third party software (e.g. GParted-live from USB thumb) using one of the following variants? (Will this have consequences or is it safe?)
Move ESP to the end of the disk.
Make copy of ESP and insert it into the first unallocated block (501 MB), then remove the original one.
If these variants are restricted, please explain why. If there is a better solution, please provide one.

Hey Any one please help me !! An unknown extra drive is shown in My Computer and when i tried to open it ... it says Access Denied .... I don't know from where it come from and when i checked it in Disk Management its not their. Please help me to remove that drive.
Below is the screen short of that Drive & Disk Management.
When I restarted my Windows system it's gone.
Remember: You should do a restart, not a shut down.
I think it's related to Windows updates.
I wonder if this could be that 100MB Windows Reserved EFI system partition that you somehow started displaying instead of it being hidden by default.

I recently need to run a program Metro:
http://vcg.isti.cnr.it/downloads/downloads.htm
It is used to measure the difference between two 3d models.
However, this program has to be run in irix 6.2/6.3. But I only have a win8.1 laptop. Is there any way to run it in a shell like cygwin? Or is there any available virtual machine resource of irix platform?
Thanks!
The software you're trying to run is old enough to drive in most countries (compiled in 1998), and was compiled for an operating system that doesn't exist anymore (Irix) that ran on a CPU architecture that's no longer even used for desktop computers (MIPS-II) and was released by a company that doesn't exist anymore either (SGI).
Your chances of getting it to run are practically nil without some major retrocomputing work. Sorry.

I bought my mom this cheap dell for use in her kitchen. She literally does nothing but facebook games, youtube, and email on this computer.
She keeps getting an error about:
api-ms-win-core-com-l1-1-0.dll
The only problem, is that the error message appears and then within a few seconds the entire system just shuts down. So I'm not sure if its missing this .dll, or what specifically the issue is. There is nothing particularly wrong with the computer except that sometimes it just randomly displays this message then shuts down.
Is there an easy fix? Or should I just wipe the drive and reinstall windows?
I just went ahead and installed Ubuntu 12.04 on the system.
