I have a dialog-based app with an edit-control in it. When I minimize / restore the app, everything's ok. But when I hide all the windows with holding down that Windows-logo-key and pressing "D" and then I restore the app, the edit-control selects everything inside it.
How to make it not to select the text on restore?

Is there a way to get vscode show navigation menu i.e Code|File|Edit|... and the project name in a full screen mode on MAC. It's almost impossible to see the name of the project when having multiple instances of code open in full screen mode.
v1.42 has a new option that may help:
Controls if native full-screen should be used on macOS.
Disable this option to prevent macOS from creating a new space when going full-screen.

I believe this is not what the full screen mode is made for. If you go full screen you are supposed to work almost exclusively in that application (only occasionally switching to other apps like mail, e.g. via command+tab). You can always have the menu bar (and the window title) appear when you move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen, however.
The name of the project is visible in the file explorer.
In this example, the project name (i.e. root folder) is testgit
You can always quickly show the file explorer using the keyboard shortcut Shift-Cmd-E.
I'm using PyCharm with multiple monitors on Mac OSX (10.10.5), normally you can drag windows off to a separate monitor. In PyCharm that works, but they (and in particular the Run window) snap back to the main monitor.
I've only seen this on the latest PyCharm 5 CE though its possible older versions also had the problem. I've searched all the settings and searched online, but can't find a setting that makes the window stay where it was placed.
Right click on the tab and select View Mode as Window.
Then you can move the window to another monitor.
It's crappy behaviour from the best python IDE out there.
There is a OSX solution but i'm not sure if you will like it:
You can enable old style multiple screen support again in OSX by going to System Preferences, Mission Control and uncheck "Displays have separate spaces". Now your floating windows will not snap back and you can even extend your PyCharm main window over the screens.
The downside of this solution is that you'll have the OSX dock and main menu only on your main monitor. I hope Jetbrains will fix this behaviour soon.
Another way to achieve what you want is to open multiple instances of the project. When you try to open the project for the second time you can choose "open project in new window". You can drag the new window to the second screen; it won't snap back to your primary monitor.

Right-click and select 'Move Tab to New Window'
Drag the newly created window to the next screen
The best option is to detach an editor window and drag it to your second monitor.
I have a desktop application written in Ruby that is using GTK2. It's just a small test application to play with GTK2, but I'm having problems achieving what I want to do. Is there any way using GTK2 to get at the titlebar (apart from setting the title), specifically to either add a button to it (beside the min/max/etc, B in the below diagram) or to add an option to the menu that pops up when you click the icon on the titlebar (A in the below diagram)?
I'm thinking there might not be because GTK is meant to work with many many different window managers, but I just wondered if there was. As a side question, what event does clicking the 'cross' button fire? At the moment if the user clicks that the window disappears but the program doesn't end - I need to capture that event and quit the program.

Note that this is possible in GTK 3.10 and up, by using gtk_window_set_titlebar(). It replaces the window manager's title bar with a custom one. GtkHeaderBar is a good custom title bar class to use.
You can't, however, make it look just like the window manager would, because you won't know which window manager the user is running.
No, the title bar is owned by the window manager and you will typically not have direct access to it.
When the user tries to close the window by clicking the window manager's button, the window will receive the delete event.
I have a normal MFC Application with an embedded icon. If I start the application, the icon is shown inside the windows-7 taskbar.
But when I change the icon inside the resources, rebuild the application and start it, the taskbar doesn't show the current icon, but the icon from the first run.
There is no special code inside the application that does something specific with the windows-7 taskbar.
Is there a way, (in C++) to tell the windows-7 taskbar to show the current icon?
Did you empty/delete the shell icon cache?
I believe that if you rebuild an application, but it's still called by the same name, then explorer doesn't think it should reload the icon, even though the new icon is the only one in the app.
If you were to release the program, no-one else would have this problem since the first version of the app would have the new icon, but for your own purposes you can call SHChangeNotify(); from shell32.dll to refresh your own view of the icon.
did your remove the previous icon from resource....and assign the new icon to the file..too after putting in the resource...might that would work....
I'd like to show another app's windows under my app's taskbar button. It's a background app that reports another process's windows as my app's own. Is there any universal way to do this, e.g. each "new" window, alert glow, progressmeter, and other taskbar features, show under my own app's button?
For example, Winfox runs under its own process and steals Firefox's windows. It also adds features, but that's irrelevant -- I just want to support another app's existing taskbar features under my own app's button -- multiple windows, progressmeter, alert flashing, error flashing, mini-icons, etc. Is there a near-universal way to steal an app, or is it largely app-specific? Thanks!
You should be able to use SetParent() to take ownership of a window, but I'm not sure how much this will help you in your attempt to add taskbar features to the legacy app.
