get attribute from children on 2000 products - magento

I'm using a script to generate a csv file for another site.
I am getting all products and on configurable ones I add in description some attributes.
Here is the code inside the function called on each configurable:
$children_ids = $product->getTypeInstance()->getUsedProductIds();
foreach($children_ids as $child_id){
$child = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->load($child_id);
$attributeValue = $child->getAttributeText($attributeLabel);
$child_qty = (int)$child->getStockItem()->getQty();
$mage_size[$attributeValue] = $child_qty;
$simple_qty += $child_qty;
}
I noticed that on large amount of products somehow the output suddenly stop without getting all. I tested with and without this code. Without I get as expected.
I have set_time_limit(0);
But no clue why my script terminate before getting information from all products.
Any ideea whay may couse this behaviour?

It's not a proper solution but works on my script.
I added
ini_set('memory_limit', '512M');
and works fine. I know 512 is way too much but just to be sure and to prevent that behaviour in the future when will be more products.

You would both have to increase the memory limit and PHP's execution time - magento is freakin' resource hungry.
I also generate product csv's with a custom script. I would recommend to run these kind of tasks from the command line.

Magento : Taking 35 Second to load 4 product's

I have created a extension that filters product collection based on a attribute.
Below is the controllers, block and view template code.
Controller
$url = Mage::getUrl('no-route');
if(Mage::app()->getRequest()->getParam('ajax')){
echo $this->getLayout()->createBlock('catalogextensions/bestsellers_home_list')
->setTemplate('catalog/landings/bestseller.phtml')
->toHtml();
}
else{
$this->loadLayout();
$this->getLayout()->getBlock('head')->setTitle('Besesellers');
$this->renderLayout();
}
Block product collection function
$storeId = Mage::app()->getStore()->getId();
$products = Mage::getResourceModel('catalog/product_collection')
->addAttributeToSelect('*')
->addAttributeToFilter(array( array( 'attribute'=>'top_seller', 'eq' => '1' )));
Mage::getSingleton('catalog/product_status')->addVisibleFilterToCollection($products);
Mage::getSingleton('catalog/product_visibility')->addVisibleInCatalogFilterToCollection($products);
Mage::getSingleton('cataloginventory/stock')->addInStockFilterToCollection($products);
$products->getSelect()->limit(4,$this->get_cur_page());
return $products ;
Product collection is iterated on view.phtml template.
Now, it is taking 35 seconds to get the output, below are the statistics of execution that i was able to get by making use of PHP's microtime() function
For
Block(product collection ) it taking around 0.01 second
Template Rendering its taking around 0.12 second
But for controller function it is taking around 35 second
I am not able to find what to check, because controller function just create a Block at runtime.
*Note:I am making use of a Paid full page cache Extension "Mirasvit FPC".
how can i find it what is taking time
Server configuration is
30GB Ram with 4 vCPU.
Application server : Nginx + php5-fpm.
Version: Magento CE 1.8.0.1
Thanks.
You use a bit deprecated way to call the filters. I don't know if that can really influate the time of loading but using addFieldToFilter() would limit the calls to database and can be usefull. You can use :
Magento: Filter products by Status
filtering product collection on "is_salable"
The block is maybe not cached correctly. I mean the products are load each time the page is called.
Make sure your flat product is set to on and all attributes needed for your filters are set as filter.
If a listing comes from EAv tables it might consume lots of resources thus slowing down.
Additionally apply optimization tricks.
First, are you sure you need to add all attributes to select?
You can replace the
addAttributeToSelect('*')
with
addAttributeToSelect(array('attribute_code', 'attribute_code'))
Next, what exactly is that
$this->get_cur_page()
doing? Rest of code shouldn't make disastrous performance issues.
PS
This should have been a comment, but I'm unable to comment yet.

Magento: how to get the price of a product with catalog rules applied

I'm developing a script (external to Magento, not a module) which aims to output a text list of all available products, their prices and some other attributes. However, catalog price rules don't seem to be applied to product prices. If I use any of the following:
$_product->getPrice()
$_product->getFinalPrice()
I get the normal price (without rules being applied).
If I use:
$_product->getSpecialPrice()
I get null unless the product actually has a special price inserted in the product itself (i.e. if special price is not related with catalog rules).
I also tried
Mage::getModel('catalogrule/rule')->calcProductPriceRule($product,$product->getPrice())
as suggested in the answer given by Fabian Blechschmidt, but interestingly it returns the normal price only if the product is affected by any catalog rule, returning null otherwise.
There was a similar question in StackOverflow and Magento Forums some time ago, but the provided answer (which is to insert the code bellow) doesn't work for me (returned prices remain the same).
Mage::app()->loadAreaPart(Mage_Core_Model_App_Area::AREA_FRONTEND,Mage_Core_Model_App_Area::PART_EVENTS);
Does anybody have an idea of how to achieve this?
I'm using Magento 1.6.2.0.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks to you, I found a new site:
http://www.catgento.com/magento-useful-functions-cheatsheet/
And they mentioned:
Mage::getModel('catalogrule/rule')->calcProductPriceRule($product,$product->getPrice())
HTH
As catalog price rules heavily depend on time, store and visiting customer, you need to set those parameters when you want to retrieve the product final price with it's price rules applied.
So, in your case, make sure that provided product is passed with the desired store and customer group id, which can be set as:
Mage::getModel('catalogrule/rule')->calcProductPriceRule($product->setStoreId('STORE_ID')->setCustomerGroupId('CUSTOMER_GROUP_ID'),$product->getPrice())
I discovered the problem. The discounted prices display Ok in the store frontend. The problem was that I was developing a script "external" to Magento (thus not a Magento module), something like:
<?php
set_time_limit(0);
ignore_user_abort();
error_reporting(E_ALL^E_NOTICE);
header("Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8");
require_once "app/Mage.php";
// Get default store code
$default_store = Mage::app()->getStore();
...
For everything to work properly it seems that one must follow the proper Magento bootstrap, and develop everything as a module. My script was so simple that I thought it wouldn't be necessary to code a complete module. In other words, everything in Magento should really be a module.
Concluding, using the module approach, all the methods work as expected:
$_product->getPrice()
$_product->getFinalPrice()
$_product->getSpecialPrice()
Thank you all for your input.
This helped me in this issue: http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/176883/
. Jernej's solution seems plausible, but it does not handle rules that Overwrite other rules by using 'stop processing' and therefore can apply more than one rule.
$original_price = $_product->getPrice();
$store_id = 1; // Use the default store
$discounted_price = Mage::getResourceModel('catalogrule/rule')->getRulePrice(
Mage::app()->getLocale()->storeTimeStamp($store_id),
Mage::app()->getStore($store_id)->getWebsiteId(),
Mage::getSingleton('customer/session')->getCustomerGroupId(),
$_product->getId());
// if the product isn't discounted then default back to the original price
if ($discounted_price===false) {
$discounted_price=$original_price;
}

Google Analytics not tracking conversions in Magento 1.7

I'm using Magento's built in Googleanalytics module which is working fine for page views, but not for conversions. The account is set up fine on Google, but it's not adding the addTrans part in the checkout/onepage/success page.
I've done a lot of digging this morning, and found that the observer does observe the "checkout_onepage_controller_success_action" correctly, and does indeed run. It does the following:
$block = Mage::app()->getFrontController()->getAction()->getLayout()->getBlock('google_analytics');
if ($block) {
$block->setOrderIds($orderIds);
}
I've done some echoing, and it does retrieve the block, and it also sets the order ids correctly. However, in the block itself, if I echo out $this->getOrderIds(); its empty.
My next thought was that perhaps it could be using two GA blocks on the page, and maybe its passing the data to the first one but echoing the HTML of the 2nd one, but I've no clue how to start checking that! The Googleanalytics.xml file only has one block it in, and I don't use that block name anywhere else!
Anyone experienced similar? Or have any idea where I can go from here?
EDIT:
The Ga.php block includes the transaction code if $this->getOrderIds() returns an array, which it is not doing. However, the observer is doing $block->setOrderIds($order_ids); which is passing through an array containing an order id. So the observer is passing the ids to the block, and the block is receiving them (setting up a method of setBlockIds and echoing out the argument, does show the array), but when the block tries to access its own data, it's suddenly not there ($block->getData() returns an array of properties but there is no order_ids property).
I also figured maybe it could be that its echoing the blocks HTML before setting the order id, so I added some variables in to check that and it's not that - its definitely setting the order_ids before trying to get them again, but its still not working!
I'm completely stumped! My only idea now is to modify the Ga.php block to use Magento's registry instead of it's own _data property, which is really not a nice way of doing it!
I think i've been an utter tool. Magento wasn't tracking conversions on the live site because I hadn't put the account code in the configuration part, but I had on my test site.
I had previously put my own analytics code in the template, so I had tracked page views.
When I saw no conversions (despite putting the account code in my test site), I started making orders on the test site and then viewing the source of the order success page. Firefox loads its source as a new request...which automatically goes to the empty basket page. So obviously, it wasn't showing the addTrans or anything, because it had already done that.
A quick check in firebug revealled it was working as it should.
So in the end, after a day of searching, I had to change "No" to "Yes" in the admin, and type in the account code. Great.

Shipping Methods are not working in magento 1.7

I activated flat shipping in the shipping options and whenever you do checkout it says “Sorry, no quotes are available for this order at this time.”Any one please help me since i am a beginner in magento.
EDIT
I have tried other shipping methods too its also showing the same. we have upgraded Magento ver. 1.4.1.1 to magento 1.7. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
EDIT 2
After upgrading community folder contains only Phoenix folder. After that i added Biebersdorffolder by seeing an error in checkout page. I don't the the purpose of folders AW and RocketWeb. Since i am not familiar with magento.
If the image is not visible i have added the image in this url

do you have any Checkout files modified on your project? Or maybe custom checkout.
I will list the code locations you need to check to make sure your Shipping works correctly.
So to begin with: Magento has very special work process with Shipping rates - it's called "collectRates" and is some modification of pattern "composite".
To make sure that everything works correctly on the code basis you need to first check the Onepage.php model (app/code/core/Mage/Checkout/Model/Type/Onepage.php): lines 330, 341, 556, 616; There should be code
{address}->setCollectShippingRates(true)
where {address} is current address variable.
This code is significant for future "collectRates" processes, because just when the Onepage Checkout page is initializing the "collectRates" process has already been processed, and the flag "collect_shipping_rates" is set to "false". If it's not set back to true, the next "collectRates" process will not be performed.
After you check the location above, and it still doesn't work - you might want to add some logging to Mage_Checkout_Block_Onepage_Shipping_Method_Available::getShippingRates method. If method is properly executed and return some rates from $this->getAddress()->getGroupedAllShippingRates() call, there might be some issues with .phtml template on your locan theme (default path to .phtml is app/design/frontend/base/default/template/checkout/onepage/shipping_method/available.phtml).
Here's how you can log the outcome from $this->getAddress()->getGroupedAllShippingRates() call (Mage_Checkout_Block_Onepage_Shipping_Method_Available::getShippingRates method):
$groups = $this->getAddress()->getGroupedAllShippingRates();
$printGroupes = array();
foreach ($groups as $code => $groupItems) {
foreach ($groupItems as $item) {
$printGroupes[$code][] = $item->getData();
}
}
Mage::log($printGroupes, null,'special.log');
Please note, that the result array with all rates will be logged into "special.log" under var/logs folder.
I wish I could be more of help, but the issue requires some digging into code, the debugger will be even more helpful than logging, if you can get hold of one.
Cheers!
Price should be entered for Flat Rate shipping to work
The problem might be of the country selection
Ship to applicable countries is set to "Specific Country" and you selected "Canada".
So you will see this shipping method only if you select Canada on the frontend during the checkout.
Or
You can make this to All Countries and check whether its working or not.

Prestashop: Get id of parent category

I've faced the problem while coding my very first prestashop template. So what I want to do is to get the list of all sub categories which are under the same parent category. So running foreach loop I need to send parent category id.
In the internet there's not so much information about prestas' coding, modules or stuff, but I found two possible solutions.
One was: {$product->id_category_default} but that works only inside a product page (?) Maybe I'm wrong and it's possible to get a solution with this?
Another way sounds bit desperate: {$cookie->last_visited_category}
problem with this one, that it works only if you come from parent category directly, but fails when followed by direct link or any other way.
Also I was thinking of writing php function, which sends MySQL query and returns parent category id, but is this optimal way to do? Also I haven't tried writing my own php functions in smarty, seems it woks in some different way than just calling function.
So to conclude, do anyone knows how to get parent category id without separate php function and if it's so desperate, where and how to define your own php functions for smarty and how to call them.
I'm working with prestashop 1.4.
Thank you for your attention.
I've used this code in a module, you might need to adapt it but basically, the id of the parent category is stored in the database.
$parentCategoryList = array(2, 3, 4, 5);
if(!in_array($id_category, $parentCategoryList)){
$parentCategory = Db::getInstance(_PS_USE_SQL_SLAVE_)->ExecuteS('
SELECT DISTINCT c.id_parent
FROM '._DB_PREFIX_.'category c
WHERE c.id_category = '.(int)($id_category)
);
$id_category_parent = $parentCategory[0]['id_parent'];
}
else{
$id_category_parent = $id_category;
}
In my code, the $parentCategoryList stores the id of my main categories (change it to your values). Then it checks if the category you're viewing ($id_category) is a main category. If not, it looks for the parent category in the database.
I am not really happy about the use of an array to store manually the main categories, but it works.
Hope this helps!
