Unable to install sbt on Mac - macos

Hi I have been trying to install SBT on mac by following in instruction at http://www.scala-sbt.org/0.13/tutorial/Manual-Installation.html
however I am stuck at the first step:
Put sbt-launch.jar in ~/bin.
I think I put sbt in bin already
Then i tried to install it through brew and the installation process went okay. But then when I checked for sbt version to confirm installation. I got a new error message:
vtmbpr:~ VT$ brew install sbt
Warning: You are using OS X 10.11.

brew link --overwrite sbt

brew link --overwrite --dry-run sbt

You can use $SBT_OPTS to pass additional JVM options to SBT:
SBT_OPTS="-XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -XX:MaxPermSize=256M"
This formula is now using the standard typesafe sbt launcher script.
Project specific options should be placed in .sbtopts in the root of your project.
Global settings should be placed in /usr/local/etc/sbtopts

This might be a really simple question to everyone but it is incredibly frustrating to get stuck at even "getting my tool setup" stage of a coursera course for 3 hours of gooling.
Updated to remove and reinstall through brew. How could I tell if sbt is running okay afterwards? I tried running sbt --version but was thrown a set of errors.

Since you've installed it manually and then used brew there might be conflicting files laying around, you should first remove it to start clean:
sudo rm /usr/local/bin/sbt
Then you can reinstall either with MacPorts or Homebrew:
MacPorts:
port install sbt
Homebrew:
brew install sbt
You might need to issue the sudo command with either of these depending on your environment. I prefer MacPorts, but whichever you decide to use is entirely your preference.
If you'd rather not reinstall sbt and try to force brew to link and overwrite all conflicting files, issue the command below, which hopefully will create the proper symlink:
brew link --overwrite sbt

Installing ocaml-top on OSX - GTK issue

I am trying to install ocaml-top on macOS High Sierra 10.13. I have installed homebrew (using the command given at https://brew.sh/) and done:
brew install opam
opam init
and answered Y to "Do you want Opam to modify ~/.bash_profile and ~/.ocamlinit". Then:
eval `opam config env`
opam install ocaml-top
I get the following error
The following actions failed
∗ install conf-gtksourceview 2
No changes have been performed
=-=- conf-gtksourceview.2 troobleshooting -=-=-=-=-
=> This package relies on external (system) dependencies that may be
missing.
`opam depext conf-gtksourceview.2' may help you find the correct
installation for your system.
[EDIT: trying on a second mac computer, the error is "[ERROR] The compilation of conf-gtksourceview failed at "pkg-config gtksourceview-2.0"."]
The above depext command gives:
# The following system packages are needed:
# - gtksourceview
# - libxml2
# All required OS packages found.
I have found advice (e.g. https://github.com/OCamlPro/ocaml-top/issues/46) like: "If you installed gtk+ through brew, you may need to do 'export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig' (homebrew)". However typing either that or "export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/opt/X11/lib/pkgconfig" in the terminal and retrying does not help.
I do not know anything about any of this, but it looked libgtksourceview2.0-dev might be involved, so I tried
opam install libgtksourceview2.0-dev
but
[ERROR] No package named libgtksourceview2 found.
Likewise "brew install libgtksourceview2.0-dev" or "brew install libgtksourceview".
https://github.com/ocaml/opam-repository/issues/8449 seems to imply this error could be because other packages need to be upgraded, and mentions that "the expanded pkg-config --short-errors --print-errors "gtksourceview-2.0 >= 2.2.0" [...] does print more information". I have no idea what this means though and how to detect which packages need to be upgraded.
You could try
brew install pkg-config gtksourceview libxml2
Otherwise, running brew search <part-of-name-of-dep> may help to find the required dependencies.

Missing the OpenSSL lib?

A CA file has been bootstrapped using certificates from the system
keychain. To add additional certificates, place .pem files in
/usr/local/etc/openssl/certs
and run
/usr/local/opt/openssl/bin/c_rehash
This formula is keg-only, so it was not symlinked into /usr/local.
Mac OS X already provides this software and installing another version in
parallel can cause all kinds of trouble.
The OpenSSL provided by OS X is too old for some software.
Generally there are no consequences of this for you. If you build your
own software and it requires this formula, you'll need to add to your
build variables:
LDFLAGS: -L/usr/local/opt/openssl/lib
CPPFLAGS: -I/usr/local/opt/openssl/include
Error: Failed to create: /usr/local/opt/openssl
Things that depend on openssl will probably not build.

and lastly,

However, this is both not recommended and completely unsupported so do so at
your own risk.
and a couple of other things like(which details I won't go into unless you think its necessary):
$CONFIGURE_OPTS="--with-openssl-dir=/usr/local/opt/openssl" rbenv install 2.1.1
$CFLAGS='-g -O2' RUBY_CONFIGURE_OPTS=--with-openssl-dir=`brew --prefix openssl` rbenv install 2.1.1
and both haven't worked.
I have installed xcode
I have an OS X 10.9.2.
Homebrew is installed.
OpenSSL 0.9.8y 5 Feb 2013
I don't understand what's going on and I have been struggling with this for a long time, please help.
Let me know if there is more information that you need in order to help and i'll happily provide it.
I found the answer to this challenge in another site.
$rbenv install --patch 2.1.1
then

Unable to install ruby using rvm due to mac port issues

I am trying to install ruby 1.9.2 or latest to work with cupertino gems
In order to install ruby, i have install 3rd party tool(RVM)
I am able to install rvm, However to install ruby, i am getting macport errors
I tried to resolve it using existing stackoverflow question, but it does not aid me clearly in resolving the issue
Steps which i followed are:
Installed rvm from get.rvm.io
activated rvm using below command:
$ source ~/.rvm/scripts/rvm
Now i am trying to install ruby 1.9.2 using following command:
$ rvm install 1.9.2
it fails with following error
*BLR4AUTOMATION2:ruby-1.9.2-p320 admin$ rvm install 2.0.0
Searching for binary rubies, this might take some time.
No binary rubies available for: osx/10.8/x86_64/ruby-2.0.0-p247.
Continuing with compilation.
Please read 'rvm help mount' to get more information on binary rubies. Installing requirements for osx, might require sudo password.

I have tried to follow several thread related to it, but it did not work for me:

synching macports using tarballs and other sources
Tried to uninstall macports from my mac and reinstall, but that also make no use

I have uploaded the console logs at below location:

At the same time i am able to install the ruby in my other mac machines but not on build machine
Can any one please help me in setting up ruby(1.9.2 or higher) using rvm or with other ways.
Thanks in advance!!
kishan
Check if the internet ports are available in your router, I tried in college (tons of ports closed) and got the same problem, try again in my house with less locked ports and worked just fine.
make sure you can run
sudo /usr/bin/rsync -rtzv --delete-after rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs/base.tar /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs
when you find proper flags (proxy!) then you can make sure macports will use them with rsync_options from macports.conf

Failing while running `brew install

I am trying to re-install Nokogiri dependencies with homebrew following the steps described here. I had nokogiri working fine before, but had to remove macports to make some space on my mac.
Running into errors at the first step:
$ brew install libxml2 libxslt

Error: Download failed: ftp://xmlsoft.org/libxml2/libxml2-2.8.0.tar.gz
Any idea how to fix this?
Is the warning about Xcode version significant?
The relevant message above seemed to be Warning: Failed to create the file.
Tried to create the /Library/Caches/Homebrew/libxml2-2.8.0.tar.gz file manually, and got a Permission denied error.
Changed the ownership of the folder to my username:group with
sudo chown <username>:<group> /Library/Caches/Homebrew/
With that change, the brew install step worked successfully!
Note: The answers to brew install mongodb error: Cowardly refusing to `sudo brew install' Mac OSX Lion helped in figuring out the problem.

problems installing scrapy ..missing gcc 4.0

I am having trouble installing scrapy with easy_install, I get:
unable to execute gcc-4.0: No such file or directory
error: Setup script exited with error: command 'gcc-4.0' failed with exit status 1
I have gcc-4.2. I've been trying to downgrade to gcc-4.0 but cannot figure out a way ...
You need to setup your environment:
First, install Command Line Tools for Xcode (I'm not 100% sure that you can install without XCode, if not then install XCode from App Store).
Then install MacPorts
To complete macports setup run this command in Terminal.app:
% sudo port selfupdate
If you done, then you can install scapry from macports:
% sudo port install py27-scrapy
Afther this you should be able to use scrapy command in Terminal.app.
