Error when building gcc with --enable-host-shared and MIPS target - gcc

I am trying to build gcc with --enable-host-shared plus the jit backend in order to use it with the rustc gcc backend.
I tried with both gcc version 12.1.0 and 11.3.0.
Here is how I configure it:
$GCC/configure \
--prefix=$PREFIX \
--target="mips64r5900el-ps2-elf" \
--enable-languages=c,jit \
--enable-checking=release \
--enable-host-shared \
--disable-libssp \
--disable-multilib \
--disable-bootstrap \
--without-headers \
--with-float=hard
The build fails when reaching libgcc with the error:
/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/build-gcc/./gcc/xgcc -B/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/build-gcc/./gcc/ -B/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/install/mips64r5900el-ps2-elf/bin/ -B/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/install/mips64r5900el-ps2-elf/lib/ -isystem /home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/install/mips64r5900el-ps2-elf/include -isystem /home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/install/mips64r5900el-ps2-elf/sys-include -g -O2 -O2 -g -O2 -DIN_GCC -fPIC -DCROSS_DIRECTORY_STRUCTURE -W -Wall -Wno-narrowing -Wwrite-strings -Wcast-qual -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wold-style-definition -isystem ./include -G 0 -g -DIN_LIBGCC2 -fbuilding-libgcc -fno-stack-protector -Dinhibit_libc -G 0 -I. -I. -I../.././gcc -I/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/gcc-12.1.0/libgcc -I/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/gcc-12.1.0/libgcc/. -I/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/gcc-12.1.0/libgcc/../gcc -I/home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/gcc-12.1.0/libgcc/../include -DHAVE_CC_TLS -o subsf3.o -MT subsf3.o -MD -MP -MF subsf3.dep -DFUNC=__subsf3 -DOP_sub3 -DTYPE=sf -c /home/davide/Documents/Rust/ps2-rustc/build/ee/gcc-12.1.0/libgcc/config/hardfp.c -fvisibility=hidden -DHIDE_EXPORTS -Wno-missing-prototypes
cc1: error: position-independent code requires ‘-mabicalls’
I tried to remove --enable-host-shared and everything compiles fine. The problem is that with the flag enabled, it forces gcc to compile libgcc with -fPIC, which according to this also requires -mabicalls which doesn't get passed.
My guess is that it is trying to build libgcc as a pic in order to dynamically link to it for the JIT functionality, but I will only use AOT functionality, so a static libgcc is totally fine.
Is there a quick way to fix this? And should this be reported as a bug?
Thanks!

Problems compiling Qt with OCI sql plugin on Linux

I am having serious trouble compiling Qt with the OCI plugin.
The Qt version is 5.6.1, and the Oracle instant client version is 12.1.0.2.0. I have installed both the basic and SDK versions, as the Qt online manual asks.
I then try to run the following command:
./configure -I /usr/include/oracle/12.1/client64/ -L /usr/lib/oracle/12.1/client64/lib -prefix /online/daq/antonin/qt_build -plugin-sql-oci -qt-xcb -v
Which produces this output:
+ cd qtbase
+ /online/daq/antonin/qt_source/5.6/Src/qtbase/configure -top-level -I /usr/include/oracle/12.1/client64/ -L /usr/lib/oracle/12.1/client64/lib -prefix /online/daq/antonin/qt_build -plugin-sql-oci -qt-xcb -v

As you can see, there are several undefined references for one of the the OCI .so files. I have tried checking online, but I have found barely any references to these symbols.
Any idea what could be causing this? A missing .so file? Wrong version of the library?

Why am I getting Docker error "C++ compilation of rule '//tensorflow/core:kernels' failed"?

A little googling pointed me at the --disable-shared option, which sort of helped, but now:
in the build dir:
~/gcc-4.9.2/configure --prefix=/usr/local/gcc-4.9.2 --disable-shared
make
yielded a slightly different error:

Adding the --enable-static option made no difference.
Any suggestions on what might be wrong?
BTW, gcc 4.9.1 gave the same errors.
System: Linux 2.6.32-431.29.2.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Jul 27 15:55:46 EDT 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
System is RHEL6, fully updated via Redhat, and has no custom RPMs that I know of.
Just completed building 4.9.2 on a CentOS 6.4 VM using 4.4.7 gcc. Ran into an out of space issue, which caused the build to fail, but once resolved, everything else went smoothly.
Looks like your build is failing in the Java side of town? Not sure if you need the Java support, so have you tried compiling just the c/c++ language support?
~/gcc-4.9.2/configure --enable-languages=c,c++ ...
I also don't require 32-bit binaries, so I add --disable-multilib to the list of configure parameters.

How to compile boost async_client.cpp

What is the correct command to compile this code?
http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_45_0/doc/html/boost_asio/example/http/client/async_client.cpp
I had installed boost library in /usr/include/boost
E.g.
clang++ -std=c++03 -Wall -pedantic -g -O2 async_client.cpp -o async_client -lboost_system -lboost_thread -lpthread
Assuming your system's packaged version of Boost (or pre-configured include & lib paths). To make use of your custom built Boost library tree in ~/custom/boost:
clang++ -std=c++03 -Wall -pedantic -g -O2 \
-isystem ~/custom/boost/ ~/custom/boost/libs/asio/example/cpp03/http/client/ \
async_client.cpp -o async_client \
-L ~/custom/boost/stage/lib/ -Wl,-rpath,/home/sehe/custom/boost/stage/lib \
-lboost_system -lboost_thread -lpthread
Replace clang++ by g++ at will.
-std=c++03 -Wall -pedantic -g -O2 only for expositional purposes.

Why aren't debugging symbols being added to my output file?

I am trying to compile a project to run on an ARM board that I have. To use the debugger, I have to put debugging symbols in the resulting .elf file.
I configured everything and ran my makefile, which produced the following results:
arm-elf-gcc -x assembler-with-cpp -c -mcpu=arm7tdmi-s -g -gdwarf-2 -Wa,-amhls=src/crt.lst src/crt.S -o src/crt.o
arm-elf-gcc -c -mcpu=arm7tdmi-s -O0 -g -gdwarf-2 -mthumb-interwork -fomit-frame-pointer -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fverbose-asm -Wa,-ahlms=src/main.lst -MD -MP -MF .dep/main.o.d -I . -I./inc src/main.c -o src/main.o
arm-elf-gcc -c -mcpu=arm7tdmi-s -O0 -g -gdwarf-2 -mthumb-interwork -fomit-frame-pointer -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fverbose-asm -Wa,-ahlms=library/md5.lst -MD -MP -MF .dep/md5.o.d -I . -I./inc library/md5.c -o library/md5.o
arm-elf-gcc -c -mcpu=arm7tdmi-s -O0 -g -gdwarf-2 -mthumb-interwork -fomit-frame-pointer -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fverbose-asm -Wa,-ahlms=library/bignum.lst -MD -MP -MF .dep/bignum.o.d -I . -I./inc library/bignum.c -o library/bignum.o
arm-elf-gcc ./src/crt.o ./src/main.o ./library/md5.o ./library/bignum.o -mcpu=arm7tdmi-s -g -nostartfiles -T./prj/LPC2138_flash.ld -Wl,-Map=testFLASH.map,--cref,--no-warn-mismatch -nostdlib -L. -Wl,-static -ffunction-sections -Wl,--gc-sections -Wl,-s -fdata-sections -lc -lg -lnosys -o testFLASH.elf
I have put in the -g flags, but when I try to find debugging symbols, I get only :
C:\Users\stkerr\Code\EclipseWorkspace\LibraryWork>objdump -g testFLASH.elf
testFLASH.elf: file format elf32-little
This is further confirmed when I try to open the .elf file in my debugger, I get an error about the file not having debugging symbols.
Can anyone point to an error in my arm-elf-gcc calls or a flag that I am missing?
After poking around a little more in the documentation, the -Wl,-s is the problem.
It strips all symbols from the resulting executable, including the debugging information.
